Outstanding selections of foods and beverages in JW Cafe buffet make the distance of this hotel from the city centre a minor hindrance. Different from many international buffet restaurants in the city, JW Cafe buffet is highly popular with buffetarians and it is rare that you will get a table without making prior reservations.

Making a stop at each station is like a visit to a different restaurant, whether it introduces local or international cuisine, in its own style. The Japanese station serves various types of sushi and sashimi, sliced, wrapped and presented beautifully on sushi mats. The Italian counter makes even the pickiest customers succumb to the temptation of picking up a freshly-baked thin slices of pizza with the layer of cheese melting on the top. People also could not resist the attractiveness of the dessert area which is even more than sweet-tooth's heaven with wide range of cakes, Vietnamese desserts, ice cream, ...

Although the prices here may be higher than some other buffet places, the foods and service certainly make a lasting impression. They also have unprecedented offers, such as unlimited fresh fruit juice, available dishes of lobster and foie gras on Sunday brunch, as well as the music bands playing drum and guitar at weekends. JW Cafe also has one of the most tranquil and romantic lunch scene in Hanoi, with picturesque landscaped lakeside vistas that surround the restaurant.

{Buffet of the Week} Ice cream buffet, Gelato Italia, Hanoi, Vietnam

Address: 57B Đinh Tiên Hoàng Street (inside Thăng Long Water Puppet Theatre), Hoàn Kiếm District, Hanoi, Vietnam

Buffet time: 1pm - 4pm and 6pm - 9pm on every Saturday

Prices: 110.000 dong/adult and 55.000 dong/child (10% service charge included)

Fanny Ice cream on Lý Thường Kiệt Street had been the "monopoly" of ice cream buffet in Hanoi before the appearance of Gelato Italia on Đinh Tiên Hoàng Street. Generally speaking, the price for ice cream buffet for adults in Gelato Italia is a third cheaper than that in Fanny (prices: 160.000 dong/adult and 50.000 dong/child - below 120cm) , so Phoholic is really curious to see what the differences between them are. In usual circumstances which is "pay as you eat", I prefer the ice cream and gelato in Gelato Italia more than Fanny because of smoother texture and more lively flavours, using more natural ingredients.

However, if I have to say, the ice cream buffet in Fanny is somewhat "superior" among the two. The ice cream quality in Gelato Italia is apparently what Fanny should head into, and there is no queuing or crowds in Gelato Italia like what happen in Fanny. Nonetheless, Fanny ice cream with a lot of free toppings and cones allow me to eat more than I have paid. I cannot eat as many scoops in Gelato Italia, on the other side, because they tend to have similar flavours as I eat more. Out of all flavours displayed, my favourites must be Coconut, Mango and Passion-fruit, and I hope that in the future, there might be more new ones such as Pistachio or nutty flavours (Gelato Italia now offers 18 flavours, and Fanny presents about 40). Moreover, despite the fact that the amount of workload and customers waitresses there have to face from morning to night, I believe that a warm welcome and a nice smile are all they need to lift the service up from the current state now.
