“Hanoi Social House” (HSH) embodies a delightful blend of contradictions: being a house-like place yet allowing people to make and strengthen social connections. Staying up to its name, Hanoi Social House is unlike many contemporary Hanoian cafes which choose to be either cozy for visitors to enjoy comfort, or professional to replace pressured offices; it harmonizes both factors.

Tucked away in a lovely quiet alley of Hội Vũ, it hypostatizes all of what I love about Hanoi: serendipity, the respect for each person’s own space, elegance of the waitresses and the synthesis of traditional and Western values. It is arduous not to give complete praise to HSH, since I have never been so fully-satisfied with the décor, and foods and beverage offered by a café. It is not bare Occidental dish, but with a twist of Eastern cuisine with the generous use of herbs and vegetables. The drinks also come with good quality, however, at the downside of quite high price of around 50.000 dong, and foods cost averagely 120.000 dong or more. However, since most people here stay for few hours to work, the price here should be reasonable enough. For me, this is one of the handful of cafes in Hanoi that I would not mind going back again and again, and each time here is like another time exploring a whole new world in front of me.
